Nominator's project description

Professor Richard T. Lahey is an international authority in multiphase flow and heat transfer technology and was formerly Director of the Center for Multiphase Research at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He was Dean of Engineering there and Chairman of the Department of Nuclear Engineering & Science and of the Faculty Senate. His scientific career, which he started at General Electric Company, covers the whole area of Boiling Water Nuclear Reactor thermal-hydraulic and safety technologies. His books still serve as a world wide standard for nuclear engineers, and he is now supporting young students in Karlsruhe to develop an innovative light water reactor of the 4th generation. The wide spectrum of his nuclear sciences even includes the recent discovery and proof of Sonofusion, the controlled nuclear fusion in collapsing bubbles.
